So, I'm curious, when you're sewing, knitting, or otherwise crafting, what do you like to watch? I'm always up for new suggestions, and despite my frustration with Netflix and/or Qwikster, I use both the instant queue and DVDs to keep myself entertained while crafting.
Lately, thanks to Kara, I have been enjoying The Forsyte Saga and Bleak House. I've also been channeling my angst-y teenager side by rewatching Felicity.
Some other shows that have a high re-watch value for me are Gilmore Girls, 30 Rock, Arrested Development, Firefly and Six Feet Under.
So, what are you watching during your crafty time?
Is Parks and Recreation on your list? If you haven't watched it, I suggest starting with Season Two and going from there. It's one of my favorite shows. :)
ReplyDeleteMy absolute favorites to watch while crafting are Buffy, the Horation Hornblower mini series, and Poirot.
ReplyDeleteLately I've been watching the West Wing and X-Files. I didn't think I'd be into the WW, but it's quite enjoyable.
Ooh--I'm all about the horrible reality shows offered on Netflix: Hoarders, Toddlers & Tiaras (but I can only stomach that one once in a while) and Heavy come to mind.
ReplyDeleteThe British series Luther, Sherlock Holmes, Downton Abbey...
Friday Night Lights, Mad Men, The Office if you haven't seen those already.
That's just what I can come up with in 30 seconds. But they will keep you busy for a while. ;-)
oh boy, it's like confession time. I actually watch my soap - Days. I've been watching it off and on since High School. Now that it's online for free, I usually keep up with it.
ReplyDeleteOther than that, I love to watch Charmed and tend to keep up with some prime time tv that my hubby doesn't like (How I Met Your Mother, Desperate Housewives)
I want to watch Buffy again.
ReplyDeleteI watch on Hulu, so current stuff or the end of the summer stuff: Castle, Burn Notice, Eureka, Alphas, Warehouse 13. I also get stuff from the library, which can be pretty random: Red Dwarf, Murder She Wrote, Project Runway. If you haven't seen it, try Being Erica. All 3 seasons are on Hulu and it's good and original (being Canadian).
ReplyDeleteugly betty is my go-to during sewing time! also, the office, criminal minds (not on netflix though), and parks and recreation.
ReplyDeleteI love watching Pushing Daisies, Mad Men (just finished this one!), 3rd rock from the sun, and Friends, in addition to 30 rock and arrested development! Mostly though I listen to the Harry Potter audiobooks while I sew! It's more engaging for me than music, but not as distracting as tv!
ReplyDeleteJust finished binding one of my baby quilts watching Storage Wars. Watch out, though...it can be addicting.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch tv while I sew! Am I the only one? I listen to NPR on my iphone. I also have the This American Life app which has all the podcasts and the tv show. I have the Bossy Pants audio book which was really fun to listen to. Show ideas to watch are Party Down and Modern Family.
ReplyDeletei find that Felicity, the character, needs to be smacked on a regular basis. so i can't re-watch. i have just started re-watching Gilmore Girls even though I want to slap Lorelei around in the later seasons.
ReplyDeleteoy. i seem to get violent with clueless women on the tee vee.
i just canceled my netflix sub, but i'm doing blockbuster now. when crafting i like to watch shows that i've already seen before so that i won't have to concentrate. some of my faves (other than AD, of course): mad men, veronica mars, party down [if you haven't watched this one you must--it's hilarious], parks and rec, and i just started watching community.
ReplyDeleteHave I already mentioned Veronica Mars? I watched a lot of that when tadpole was younger (and sleeping more during the day). Also, The New Girl on hulu had a surprisingly good pilot.
ReplyDeleteI agree with knottygnome, shows I've already seen mean less chance of screwing up what I'm working on. I love older shows like Mary Tyler Moore and Soap, and am always up for Dead Like Me or Curb Your Enthusiasm. For teen angst it's gotta be My So-Called Life! :)
ReplyDeleteTwo you have to add: Winter's Bone (drama movie, very good), and Party Down (tv series, very funny). Great idea for a post!
ReplyDeleteMy sewing machine isn't set up in a room with a TV, and I often end up needing to follow directions on my PC, so we listen to a lot of talk radio (mostly Rush Limbaugh and Howard Stern), podcasts (love the "World of Words" series, as well as Larry Miller's podcast through the ACE network). I find podcasts to be just enough of a way to keep my head occupied (particularly when I'm just straight line quilting) but not too much, if that amkes sense!
ReplyDeleteFor TV, though, my husband has been watching Breaking Bad (which I don't like too much, but which he adores) and we've watched a lot of Mad Men - LOVE that show, and definitely recommend it!
I've been catching up on shows I haven't watched on a regular basis... Pushing Daisies, The Office, Bones
ReplyDeleteThe shows I can watch over and over again... Psych, Burn Notice, The Glades, and my all time favortie movie Fletch.
i listen to books on my ipod. i can listen and it doesn't require any additional attention from me. i get various books from the library on audio. it is good for me.
ReplyDeleteha - i had been thinking about re-watching Felicity at some point. but i have a weekness for young adult drama - i can't help it, the Vampire Diaries is so good! have you watched the Borgias? just got through the first season and really enjoyed it, can't wait for the next.
ReplyDeleteBBC/ITV/film Jane Austen adaptations. Gilmore Girls, Bewitched... Ok, most of the shows I watch are old. :)
ReplyDeleteFinally, someone mentioned Bones (I had withdrawal while I was in the field)!!
ReplyDeleteAlso...Gilmore Girls, Friends, NCIS, Prime Suspect, Veronica Mars (though none of these are on instant)...MI-5, Greys Anatomy (all on instant)
You know, you are seeing some of my very guilty pleasures (like Greys...I hate the show now but can't stop watching the darn thing).
