happenings

I'm enjoying a rainy Saturday afternoon today. There's a few things I'd like to share.

Bella

First up, I recently left my job. After working in the same field for eight years, I decided to make a clean break. It was never my passion. Not knowing what tomorrow will bring is scary, but I'm optimistic. This is the reason for my recent etsy endeavor. I thought dabbling with a shop might be a good thing to try. I also hope to share more tutorials in the upcoming months. And most importantly, I feel so grateful to E. He is such an amazing partner.

Timing is a funny thing, and during this past week (my first at home), we experienced a hot water leak at our townhome. There have been plumbers in and out for the past few days. There are something like six holes in the drywall in our living room walls/ceiling, but hopefully, this will all be past us after another week or two. I'm glad I was home to help arrange the work, though!

Earlier this week, I took this stack of lovely green fabrics, and now I've got this:

Plus pillow top

I'll be turning it into a pillow for my buddy, Rhonda.

It's making me want to make an entire plus quilt, though. Each time I make this type of block, I enjoy it so much!

Olias

Before that happens though, I've got two quilts waiting to be basted and quilted. The basting will happen today, and I hope to get lots of quilting hours in this weekend.

Brenda is having a storewide sale this weekend, using the coupon code LABOR20.
If you are in the US, I wish you a happy Labor Day, and for the rest of you, happy weekend!

  10. I would be too scared to leave a job without having a new one. I hope you find what you like.
Tell me a secret: how do you make all those squares line up? What am I doing wrong? I'd be happy for any advice.

    1. To line up squares neatly, I use pins to match the seams before sewing. And part of it is just practice!

  16. Wow, I can't believe how similar your situation is to mine right now. I just left my job a week ago too. This morning my daughter started a new preschool, and my son has his first day of first grade. After getting him on the bus, I closed my garage door and the spring broke. I can't get my car out until the garage door repair guy gets here after 2. So I thought I could get some cleaning done, but now the vacuum just broke. I was kinda scared to touch the computer, but so far so good.

I love all the greens you used for the plus pillow. Best of luck to you!

  21. Jacey, I'm so excited for you and I'm so glad you shared this big decision with us! I think that if you weren't loving your work then you absolutely made the right decision to pursue other avenues! And how wonderful that you have that as an option-- it's great that you acknowledged the support of your partner, that's exactly what they're for :)
Based upon the few things I've seen in your etsy shop, I don't doubt that you'll find some success there! And I hope to hear more about this new direction you're headed as things unfold!
