Totally Groovy QAL + Giveaway!

Mondays are rough, so how about a little giveaway to get this week going? Alyssa at Pile O' Fabric asked me to share her new quilt-along with you! Groove, by Carolina Patchworks is intriguing; it really draws me in!
The curves do seem a little scary, but Emily tells us it is much easier than it looks! I'm really interested to see what kinds of fabric combinations people come up with. I think it might be neat to do all solids with one print! Alyssa has some tutorials planned, as well as advice on fabric selection and piecing curves. You are welcome to make this quilt any way you see fit, so if you prefer to use prints then go for it!
You can expect to see posts from the likes of amazing quilters like Emily Cier, Jacquie Gering, Amanda Woodruff, and Kate Conklin. We will also be getting some Groovy Quilting tips from the FMQ queen, Angela Walters. This will be a fantastic learning experience, and a great opportunity to meet some new quilting friends!
It all starts August 2nd - Planning and Choosing your Fabric (Alyssa's arranged a 20% discount on Kona Cotton at Fat Quarter Shop!) Then, on October 25th - there will be Grand Prize Winners from the linky party. You can get all of the dates and deadlines over at Alyssa's blog!

Carolina Patchworks will be offering all QAL Participants a discount on her pattern.
20% off 2 or more of Emily's patterns code: TOTALLYGROOVY
15% off Groove Paper Pattern code: GROOVEPAPER
15% off Groove PDF Pattern code: GROOVEPDF
Fat Quarter Shop is offering all QAL Participants a 20% Discount on all KONA cotton from now till August 30th using code: Sewing101

If you'd like to win a copy of the pattern, just leave a comment describing a fabric combination you might like to try with this quilt. I think a palette of blues might be lovely and fluid, or using a text print for one might be a stunner!
One entry per person, please. Leave a comment by Thursday evening and I'll pick a winner randomly.

Thanks for entering, and please do visit Pile O' Fabric for more details!

  1. Blue sounds lovely! And almost all blue look good together, don't they? But I think I'll go for my favourites these days, which are yellow, orange, red and pink! Colors that make me happy! Thanks for the giveaway!

  3. I'd love to try it with lots of blenders: heath prints and the crosshatches from Summersville and some Quilter's Linen, maybe some Grunge- wouldn't that be fun?

  4. I'm exploring some yellow greens mixed with something else (still working on the something else part!) Thanks for the chance to win!

  5. I'm thinking greyed greens and blues with pale grey. If I wanted to do prints, I think the Curious Nature line would be cool.

  6. This is a great looking pattern! I've been stuck in an aqua and yellow phase lately - but I think this could look lovely with 3 shades of aqua (2 solids 1 print) and 1 or 2 yellows, and white. Thanks for the chance to win :)

  11. Awesome quilt a long and giveaway! I will see if I have any groovy babies on my list and join in! I recently instagrammed a stack of Kona aqua, papaya and tangerine and I think it would be deliciously retro!

  14. I love this quilt I wish I had time to make one but no : ( so no entry for me but I will be following along in spirit. Let's see I would do something with a small print maybe a Anna Marie Horner combined with some solids. Anything with small flowers or even dots that didn't create a direction to distract. I am excited to see what everyone does.

  20. I'm thinking of using this bundle http://www.fatquartershop.com/store/stores_app/Browse_Item_Details.asp?Shopper_id=7812614914137812&Store_id=499&page_id=23&Item_ID=40948&Parent_Ids=
I'm intimidated by putting a print in it, as in I have no idea what it would look like - I suppose I should go Google and see if there's some finished ones out there already that use them. Thank you for the giveaway!

  21. I have not made up my mind yet but I think the original color scheme looks fab! Orange/brown with purple and white suits me well :-))

  22. I want an orange quilt so I am going to go with orange, green, yellow and pink. I can't picture things in my head, so if I got the fabric together and it looked awful I guess I wouldn't use those colors together.

  26. Such a striking quilt! I'm abit color challenged when it comes to putting them together. I love looking at what colors are being used online or in magazines and then copy, I mean get inspired to use the same. hehe. I think blues would be great, I love purples with maybe one floral added.

Thank you and Pile O' Fabric for a great giveaway and a chance to win.

  29. Oooh blues and greens could be groovy, but an orange in there would probably really seal the deal. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  30. Oh my, my thinking cap is feeling a bit stretched at the moment...I'd probably go with the colors I love the most at the moment...with all those curves...I'm reminded of the wave action of the sea...so I'd like to experiment with some tropical ocean-like colors in blues, greens, teals, lights and darks...with some purples mixed in...all with a very light aqua as the lightest contrast color to show it off. Maybe in batiks or just Kona solids...something very refreshing and relaxing to look at and snuggle with.

  31. it would look cool with a pile of kona solids- maybe the hot spice or the quilt con solids?

Aug 2 will be here soon, I'd better get going!

  38. I love bold colors with high contrasts and this quilt pattern is great. I've been experimenting with navy and white modern quilts, but for this pattern I would want to try red orange, white, and a lighter shade of orange. So pretty!
