Distraction (i.e. not on the to-do list)

Progress: Stripe Study

Something has wormed into my brain and distracted me from my to-do list. I'm knitting the super lovely Stripe Study. To make it more fun, I'm knitting along with Rue, Lauren, Phoe, Minty, Wynk, and, well, anyone who wants to join in! If you'd like to join, we're mainly just keeping track of progress over on twitter, using the hash tag #stripestudy . I know we're tempting Rachel something fierce!

So addicted to stripe study

I knew the shawl would be enjoyable, because as I've already pointed out, I love knitting shawls. Even if I don't WEAR shawls often.

For Stripe Study

I'm using two stashed yarns for this. The aqua is Hazel Knits Sock in Beach Glass, and the brownish-gold is Sundara Sock Yarn in Ancient Place (I think? The color name is handwritten).

Yep! I'm hooked.
I've also been making progress on the list. I'm down to 12 items.

  1. Isn't it a fun, addictive knit? I loved knitting mine, and it's very easy to wear, too! :)

  2. It's so awesome...and I must say, you succeeded in sucking me into this kal and I don't even wear shawls either!! ha ha ha ha!

I had a sewing retreat this weekend and we took a break to a local yarn shop and I walked away with way too much (for me) and a couple hanks and needles for this! ha ha! I cast on at the retreat but I think I was busy socializing and messed up on a row or two at the beginning so I am gonna rip it out and start over again...can't wait until it is actually looking like something. :) I'll probably be slower...but I can still do it, I think.

  4. I cracked up over your tweet about this this morning. I too should be making gifts, but instead I'm all, "ooooo STRIPES." They're totally addictive.

  5. How do those fun projects do that? They just sneak into your hands when you should be working on something else. :)

    It looks beautiful, enjoy! :D

  6. The title of this post cracked me up because I'm in the same boat! Why is it that crunch time is when I feel most like I want to start new projects?! Anyway, the variations in that brown look so rich and warm - beautiful!

  9. I enjoyed knitting my Stripe Study (http://www.ravelry.com/projects/sjn821/stripe-study-shawl) this summer as a mini-KAL with friends who live out of state. I choose neutral colored yarns in hopes that would coordinate with more clothes (dresses). I wore it only a few times in the past several months, but it still makes me happy. :-)

  12. I love the brown/aqua combo! I can't tell you how many shawls I have knitted and never worn. LOL I went right from scarves to shawls when I first learned 5 years ago. I'll have to show them off sometime -- you'll all laugh, they are SO ugly!!!

  15. Yeah, you are tempting me and if I had the colors I wanted in my stash, I probably would have been like you and cast on at a very inappropriate time what with gift craftiness going on. I have a feeling that this may get cast on Christmas day if anyone in my family pays attention to my hints. ;) If not, later in January.

Yours, by the way, look amazing so far and as I said in Flickr..you are killing me with those colors!

  16. Howdy, stranger. It's been quite a week. Now you can see what exciting things I do on Friday nights: hold a baby and catch up on blogs. To be fair, I was knitting stripe study and watching Lost until a certain someone woke up.

I love your color combo! Especially that sundara brown. It just glows against the blue.

  17. I love your color combo! I made one over the summer and have found it difficult to wear...it won't sit right on my shoulders wrapped around my neck. I should try blocking it, but I'm lazy like that :o). It served me best over the summer though as a small lap blanket to throw over my lap and legs in the freezing cold movie theaters! Perfect when you're wearing shorts or a skirt.
