It's been sort of a weird week, and I've felt scatter-brained as a result. I have been fighting the sinus issues, and we got some snow/ice, which basically shut down the city. Obviously, it's nothing like Northern winters here, but Houston isn't really equipped for any kind of ice or snow. But of course, we will be back in the 60 degree Fahrenheit range by the weekend!

I made my first Linden sweatshirt (pattern by Grainline Studio yesterday. I've made many Lark Tees (pattern also by Grainline) (I've made countless Larks, but have not documented them well!). For some reason, I couldn't imagine myself wearing the Linden, but I love it so much!
I used a Charley Harper knit, and a striped accent (the striped knit was a gift from my friend Brianne).

This is the first garment that I sewed completely on my new serger.

I received it last month (a gift from Elliott), and I've been learning the basics. My friend Jenn recommended this craftsy class, and it has been very helpful.

I've also been slowly hand quilting my string diamonds quilt.

Additionally, I've been working on a weaving project that I started last month. Finally, I have added a few sections to a long-term WIP that I never shared here. The last photos I have before today are from October, but I can't recall when I started this.

You know I love a good string project, and it has been fun to work on the past few days. This is a gift, and I'd like to finish it before May. Although I didn't use the pattern, I was definitely inspired by Amanda Jean's cover quilt from Sunday Morning Quilts (I didn't use the exact same colors, but tweaked it for the recipient).

Citizens of Textile tomorrow!

You may already know about Heather's newest project, Citizens of Textile. If not, in short, it's a small marketplace of handmade goods and fiber love. It's only available one weekend a month, with a few artists featured each month.

And I'm a lucky duck who is included in the October offerings! Tomorrow (Friday), at 5 pm PST, you can find a few of my handmades, as well as loads of gorgeous hand-dyed yarns. Also included this month, is Splendor Falls. She has made some amazing woven pouches!

Speaking of weaving, two of my woven scarves will be available in the sale this weekend.

My Oceanic scarf, which I love so much. The colors are just my favorite, and it's so soft and fine!

There's also this Rosy Mariposa scarf, woven from some treasured handspun from an old friend and some Malabrigo Worsted.

I also made a handful of needle rolls, using my pal Amanda's pattern.

Knitting/yarn goals

Well, it's only 22 days into the new year, so I can still proclaim my crafty intents for the year, right? In the yarn realm of my interests, I finally learned to weave!

I received the Ashford Sample-It loom from a very sweet friend a year ago, and on January 1st, Elliott helped me set up my first warp. The pictured piece is now a finished scarf, but I haven't taken FO shots yet. It was very quick and enjoyable to weave the scarf, and I see lots of weaving in my 2015 forecast.

After discovering that I have a BOATLOAD of sock yarn (boatload is a technical term, btw), I want to focus on sock yarn projects this year.
I purchased a reed for the loom to weave with sock yarn, which will be a part of my plan.
I also intend to make at least four pairs of socks this year. For me, that's a pretty lofty goal, since socks are my kryptonite.

But I'm halfway through the second sock on this pair, which I started January 2nd. It's Hermoine's Everyday Socks (free pattern), and I'm using Squoosh Ultra Sock in the Vintage colorway. I hope to finish this pair in the next week or so.

Additionally, Eat Sleep Knit is doing another year of the yarnathon. I participated in many of their challenges last year, and I intend to do the same this year, as some of the KALs were already in my knitting plans.
Unfortunately, projects like my Scrappy Hue Shift won't count, since the majority of the yarn used has to be from ESK. But I still plan on finishing that blanket this year!

I also intend to finish Backshore (bottom of the post), the choose your own adventure shawl and these mitts.

So, you know, normal ambitious dreams of knitting and weaving all of the things. Nbd.

A few more gifts

I know I'm not alone in great gift ambitions. There were a few things left in my pile this time around, so I'll be finishing a few late Christmas gifts in the upcoming weeks.

But let's talk about what did get finished, shall we?

First, my friend Sara, wove this beautiful scarf for my mom. And now I want a loom...
I purchased this yarn back in 2010 with hopes of knitting a pair of socks for my mom. The yarn celebrates her deep love for Texas A&M, but alas, it sat in a drawer until I realized I could send it to Sara for some instant gratification gifting. Sara did an amazing job, and my mother loves it. And now I have a little less stash guilt. Win, win, win.

Other scarves were made by me, out of a pile of pretty voile fabrics. I used AMH's notes with a length of 72" per scarf. These were a big hit with my family, and I enjoyed pairing the fabrics for each recipient.

I made a second Super tote (right down to the wire) for Rhonda. Not sure how it's possible, but I love it even more than the first. I used a variety of red-orange and teal prints, along with a natural linen for the exterior.

I'm especially proud of my quilting on this one.
